Breastfeeding has many benefits for the whole family including speeding mom’s recovery and keeping baby healthy. The Family Birth Place at Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals has certified lactation consultants on staff 365 days a year to help our new moms get started on their breastfeeding journey. We sat down with two of our lactation consultants to learn more about the benefits of breastfeeding, and where moms can go for help and support.
Valerie Lemelin, RN, and Donna R Rolle, RN, both started as nurses in labor and delivery before discovering a passion for helping new moms get started breastfeeding.
These certified lactation consultants had great information to share, including reasons to breastfeed, what you need to know about breast pumps, and tips for overcoming potential roadblocks. They even busted a couple of breastfeeding myths.
